HD 1080 Material

I borrowed an HD 1080 camera from Northkingdom this weekend.
And I filmed the live action material with help from my classmates Lukas and Tomas.
Here are som samples that are scaled down 50%.

Scenario

A long time I’ve thougt about what I could do with my digital character.
When I saw the commercials for Ratchet and Clank. I begun to get ideas.

So maby I can test wierd and dengarous gadgets too.
I got even more ideas from Iron Man. That sequense when hes about to try his rocket boots for the first time.
Just 10% and SLAM, right in too the wall.

Could my gadget be a 3 meter high slingshot. Yes it could!
Here follow a test of how it could be.

And here is how the base looks like:

My Rig Is Done

Finaly my rig is done.
Many, many funky problmes has crossed my way to a final functional rig.
But now all blend shapes and wrap meshes works as planed.

And here I got a clip where I tried my rig out.

Wrinkles

Here are another test.
- I made a low poly which I skined to a joint chain.
- I made a high poly copy that I wrap deformed to the low poly.
- Then I duplicated the high poly leg.
- I use the copy to blend shape the original.
- When the leg is bent I model the wrinkles on hte copy.
- By driven key I control when the blend should appear.

Her’s a clip that shows the result.

This method will be applyed on both shirt and jeans.

Testing Testing

Now I ‘ve gone through the whole production process.

I’ve filmed my self jumping infront of the camera and from a chair far away from camera.
Then I animated my digital character so the beginning and the end matches my movment at the film.
I rendered the animation in 6 diffrent layers:
Beauty Pass
Pants Mask
Shirt Mask
Skin Mask
Shoes Mask
RGB Pass
By this way I can control almost all lighting in post.
In post I color correct my digital material to match the filmed material.
I also removed the chair I jumped from.

This is how it looks befor any post production:

Her’s the final test result:

What did I learn with this test:
I discoverd that It’s hard to make it look good as cloeser I get to the camera (quite obvious).
But 65 feets from camera could be great.
I must either make a more correct lighting in maya or produce more passes for post to get greater controll.

I think I will make another test later on with these new experience
