Compositing

This last week before MS3 I’m working with compositing. I have rendered out almost every layer that I need from Maya (I still have about two more on the top of my wish list).
I’ve been creating most of the layers in Maya but I’m also working with particles in Fusion. I’ve used Fusion to create the snowparticles that would fall closest to the camera. To optimize the time it takes too uppdate and render in Fusion I have rendered out the snow layers that I created in Fusion into image sets soo that I could add them whit loaders again to my material.

A test on my snow layers closest to the camera.
I’m going too add more snow that brakes up the line between the snow on the ground and the trees closest to the camera and two more layers further away too get more depth in the film.

For the moment I’m working on the tracking and the masks. There is a lot of tweaking left and I still have some snow layers that I would want to add but I’m geting closer to the result I’m after.

This is a test I rendered out last night.

After waiting a long time for the movies to load ( they must be huge.) they finally pop up.

It looks good, for a untrained eye that is. But maybe vary the speed of the snow falling to make it look more realistic? You must have some fancy button for that somewhere.

Also maybe try to blend the falling snow against the ground? It looks kinda like the snow is glowing when it is over the darker “ground”-snow.

The second movie has some stuttering, but from what I can see the cars have a direction up the tornado opposite its “twist”-direction. Compared to the other stuff being pulled up into it. And maybe make it so that they start falling towards the ground when the tornado starts to disappear.

    Hi Ekroth,

Yes the movies are huge I know that but they are tests for me to know about how long render time I will have and if I would compress them even more you would not be able to see anything more then blur. The stuttering is a result after I have compressed the files.

I shall look into my fancy button stash and see if I find the speed variation button ;)

I agree with you on the ground part and I have already done something about it, about the cars direction I wounder if you would have watched it if I havent already told you about it ;) but yes they’re not moving completly in the right direction and that’s a nother thing that I’m working on right now. When it comes to the falling part of the cars they are falling but I can agree with that it’s not enough, I will check in to that and see what time I have to fix it.

Seems like I have stated the obvious, but rather that than finding out something critical you haven’t discovered yet.

Good luck with wrapping up the project. Looking forward to see what everyone have managed to create. Anyhow, now I have a plane to catch.
