last entry of the year

I have been a bit busy lately but have managed to work a little bit on the ground, ground texture and a few details. I think I will skip the cobblestones that I was thinking of having when I first started the project. The Asphalt looks better in the scene.

I will have to start texturing and UV-mapping soon
(But for now I will concentrate on modeling and working on the second research documet.

Happy new year everyone!

Modeling

I have kept on modeling stuff for my scene.
Nothing is textured yet, I just think it\s easier modeling when I have some colours in the scene!

I also did a snow exeriment with maya particles and blendhsape.

I am not that happy with the result, the snow appears too quickly and you can really tell it\’s coming from underneath the models.
I’ll have to read up on some better ways of doing this!

Camera angles

Here is some progress on the modeling. Still very low poly and simple, no texturing yet. I want to pick camera angle to work from before I start with the details so I don’t spend time on models that won’t show on the final render.

The camera angles i have been thinking of.

Camera looking through the archway (moving forward very slowly).
My favourite camera angles at the moment.

My second favourite angle. you can see the archway and vegetation but with less detailed houses to create.
Since I wan’t to concentrate on creating the weather effects this might be showing just enough of the street!

Camera moving slowly forward pointing at the archway or looking around:
Looks alright but if I did this it would mean that I have to create something on the street behind the archway and it would also be difficult to see the tree to the left.

Started Modeling

I have begun with the modeling blocking out houses to start deciding camera angles so I know where I need to put extra detail.

I’m planning to build most of the scene now then slowly adding detials, like window frames and stones and vegetation pretty soon.

experiment

We had the milestone 1 presentation on tuesday.

I will start writing more in the blog when I have more things to show. For the last few weeks I have worked on the project plan and looking at tutorials etc. I will start with the modeling now and when the modeling is done I can do some proper experiments with lighting, camera angles and effects.

The effects I want to have in the scene are raindrops falling from the sky, water running down the street, snowflakes falling down the sky and snow on the ground.
I am now trying out different techniques for creating these effects.

I have a done a few experiments to create the transitions from dry sunny weather to rain.
This one was done with maya particles and works alright but I have to make sure the particles don’t fall down and are not all perfectly round.
