Progress on the sneaking around and searching part. I’ve not worked on the parts forward of the pelvis… will start with that tomorrow =)

Hey dude!,
I’m updating my linux machine with the new 64 bit fedora core, yeah!, so I figured I have a look at what you guys have been up to while I wait.
looks cool!,
everything feels a bit to slow to me, including the run in the previous clip.
also it looks like you lost some of the nice weight that you had previously going through it’s spine.
Some places really feels like it’s going from one pose to another. especially when looking/investigating the branch. everything starts and stops at the same time.
To get a nice flow on the head when it looks around. lets say going from looking camera left to camera right. I would start of by translating the head left and rotate against camera right. so that the tip of the nose would go right but the middle of the head would go left or stay still for a couple of frames.
this will give you a nice leading feeling going through the head which animals often tend to do…
leading with the body/shoulders or back of head is more of a human thing. like if we are in danger we might keep looking at the danger why we turn around to run, where animals would most likely start from the tip of the nose and then the rest would follow.
You have one strong look (roughfely half way down the clip) that goes left to right where you are sort of leading with the shoulders, this could be cool. but then you need to do the opposite of above, so start by rotating shoulders then translate the head right to bring the neck with the shoulders then after that you start rotating the head.
try both ways and see what works with the feeling your after.
leading with the shoulders should give you more of a lade back feeling, like, I’m here in the forest, looking cool, oooh, look at that tree, nice, I walk some more…..
really hard to explain when writing. next time you make a play blast could you add frame numbers? might be easier to explain if I can give you an excakt frame to look at.
anyway, hope any of this helped and have fun dude!, looks really great so far!

I will work more on the entering scene and see what feels good. Regarding the speed I think it’s good, but everything needs polishing and tweaking. I will also make the head more steady so that it feels like he is focused on hunting whatever that’s in front of him.
The spine and head are very stiff in the searching scene. I hadn’t worked on them at all in the clip above, they were just left like that from the posing stage. Next update will be more towards what I’m aiming for.
Very good advice on how to think when animating. Will think about it!
Thanks for all the crits!
Next time I will add a framecounter =)
Have fun with that new OS ;)
