MS3: Production V

Well, I’m pretty much done with my scene - at the moment I’m cutting everything together and adding a nice audio track over the walkthrough footage I Fraps-ed.

Link to my completed movie, as well as my Post-Mortem document and the PowerPoint presentation used for Milestone 3 will be up either tomorrow or on Monday.

MS3: Production IV

This past week I have begun importing my models into the Unreal Editor. Things have gone smoothly so far, though I still need to work some on the lighting/shadows.

MS3: Production III

Spent this week modeling various stuff for my scene. Nothing exciting, I’m afraid.

MS3: Production II

The fruits of this week’s labor - my environment in the UR3 Editor:

By the end of next week I will hopefully have all my models ready to be imported into the Editor.

MS3: Production I

These past two weeks I have been concentrating on two things:

Firstly, I’ve been focusing on getting to know the Unreal 3 Editor, which means building ground surfaces/environments, using the material editor, importing models etc. Secondly, I’ve been modeling and (preliminarily) texturing the various flora I will need for my final product.

It’s slow going, and not much to update about, but hopefully things will start to speed up and take shape in a week or so.

MS3: Previz

This week I have created a previz of my ‘walkthrough’ sequence to help me further plot out the scene layout.

Two additional references to go along with the previz, both stock photos by onthespoke:

MS2: Round Up

Today I’ve given my Milestone 2 presentation, which went pretty well. I’ve also installed the Unreal 3 Editor and will now spend the next few days playing around with it.

I’ve already experimented some with Alpha channels in Maya, and while this might be too high poly for my final scene, I still like the effect:

I’ll start this entry off with the scene layout referred to in my last entry;

This week’s updates:

Documentation
I’ve appended my Project Plan to reflect the fact that my Research Document was included in Milestone 1 as well as Milestone 2. Due to this, the document has been moved from the Milestone 1 heading to the Milestone 2 one in the right sidebar.

Delivery
Reference Document, containing all photo references for my project.
Concept Art Document, which contains concept art and scene layout.
Research Document, where you will find a summary of the research done in the past few weeks, alongside a more indepth look at the references found in the Reference Document, and the contents of the Concept Art Document.
Milestone 2 Presentation, a copy of the presentation to be given at the Milestone 2 delivery.

MS2: Preproduction

I have spent the last few weeks in southern Sweden (in truth, I am still there), taking some time off for the holidays inbetween musings and research and sketches.

Preproduction:
I have drawn out a general layout of my scene, and marked the location of the largest and more striking objects. As I wanted to somehow incorporate into the scene a sense of being able to explore, I decided very quickly not to make it too open - I want the player to be able to stand at one end of the scene and not be able to look straight across to the other side.

I ended up going with a slight C-shaped layout, where the view will be obscured by foliage and bushes and trees. Sadly, as I am currently without access to a scanner, I won’t have the layout sketch up until the end of this week. It’ll be posted well before Milestone 2, along with various other sketches.
