Progress Report 6
No progress from last week? Well, let me change that.
I was quite depressed last Friday as nothing went my way. after numerous tries, programs and pagan rituals I still couldn’t get my UV map imported to my high poly. Zbrush just wouldn’t let me and my meshes kept exploding.

On Saturday night I found a post with a guy who knew what he was talking about and with his help I finally got it to work.
Here is my lowpoly with normal map.

Progress Report 5
Well this week certainly didn’t go as planed.
I realized after a bit of messing about in UT3 engine that I had to fit my mesh to their skeleton if I want to be able to use UT’s animations. Due to my limited knowledge about rigging I thought you could do the reverse. However, this was not the case. So back to Zbrush I went, reposed the mesh, cleaned it up and basically had to remake most of my lowpoly mesh from the beginning.
Well it is at least finished now. Just the fingers left (shh don’t tell anyone) which I will do in Maya as it is easier.
Well I am basically were I was last Friday having to UV map again. :(
Luckily its a quite easy mesh to map… also I am much better prepared for the future now, after all this was work I had planned to do later. So still no worries about my timeplan. All it does is pushes forward the texturing phase another week. But as the textures don’t need to be exactly 100% finished when I start to import it the character to the engine anyway, so no problem there either.
Still no hair…

Progress Report 4
Progress this week was slow. However I managed to make a comeback yesterday and are more or less back at were I should be. Have today and the weekend to finish to UV map so I can begin texturing next week.
I learned how I colourize directly on the model in Zbrush3 and how I could quickly remake the topology for a more animation friendly one. This was surprisingly easy to do and worked great, just a bit hard to find at first and tedious work. The colourizing will be great when texturing to make sure I get no seams. It also helped me to draw out were I should put my edge loops.
I also want to start to make the hair next week. Found a tutorial with a fun way of doing things which I want to try out. Link
Looking forward to seeing my character with some crazy hair instead of the sad bald look she is having now. :D
Progress Report 3
25/01
I spend most of the time familiarizing myself with the UT3 editor and making small tweeks on the model and redid the right arm. Still not happy with it.
I also did some belts and gear and a shoulder pad. They have to be on ice for now though, as its more important to get the main model up and running. Details and enhancements can be added later on when I have the time. I have 4 weeks for this planned for tweeks and such before final presentation anyway. :)
Sorry for the lack of progress on the blog. Will make a progress report from now on, each Friday.
