This week I have been working on the second enemy. It remains to be seen if there will be a third. All that is left to do on this one is to add a weapon. Which is problematic. To have something logical like a shovel to shove coal, or a arm to grab stuff makes a silly attack. But to have a weapon we be strange because then the worker couldn’t do any actual work. We might go with a blowtorch, or a steam thrower.

I spent the day getting our first three rooms into the engine. Quite a lot of work compared to working with tech examples, but I finally got it working.

And here’s the lightmap

Worth noting is that our stand-in character fleshman isn’t recieving any dynamic lighting. He doesn’t blend in very well, but this will change as we export the light positions from the level.

We have been working on some corridors connecting the different rooms. We also made some improvements to the corridor in the post below.

Some pictures appear dark in the screenshots, but things will be brighter in fullscreen.

We’ve begun to put up more detailed deadlines to help us in our work. Today we finished working on the locker and lunchroom and the corridors connecting them. Basically we’re done with modelling, texturing and lighting. Minor tweaks will of course be added as needed.
A few pictures:

I’ve (darko) finished the textures for the character now, it took longer then expected, we all took a little break from the project to compile our showreel, we all have some material from the game in our showreels.
here’s the character

The weapons Fredrik modelled and I textured have been done for a couple of days and a picture was included in the presentation. Nevertheless, here they are again:
I have spent a few days at home feeling a little sick, but at least I’ve tried to get some work done on the lighting. Here is an example from a hallway with big ovens:
Working with lighting also made me realize we needed another source of light, namely a wall mounted kerosene lamp. Having made a spotlight already it was a breeze to make another lamp with similar materials:
Take care.

Changes and additions will be made to the presentation file before the actual presentation.
Below is a video of the viewer in action. The viewer demonstrates animation, light, model loading and user input.

We’ve all returned from the christmas vacation and are now gnawing away at the work that needs to be done like eager beavers. Fredrik is modeling on the big enemy, Darko is working with our normal mapped character and I am texturing the weapons. None of these are completely finished but I’m sure there will be pictures once things begin to reach final status.
In other news, Arash bought us a license for Turtle, the renderer I spoke about in an earlier post. This will of course help us tremendously in achieving high quality lighting and normal maps and we’re very greatful for the chance to work with it.

We made some timeplan changes since we felt that the original goals for MS2 were misplaced. The original idea was to deliver both our enemies and the character and focus our third milestone period on the level. Once the actual work began we found that it was much more convenient to focus on modeling and texturing props and level details rather than modeling and animating the enemies. The changes are available in the timeplan document to the right.
Here’s a little progress.

Darko updated the texture on his lockers.

Modeling by Fredrik, texturing by Darko.

Modeling and texturing by David.
We’ve textured and lit the first room in the game. Some more props will be thrown in of course.

Texturing by Darko, lighting by David.
I also made some updates to the shotgun texture to make it more detailed.
